Panama City, FL 2/25/08- With the buzz of the Daytona 500, known as the “Great American Race” still fresh in the minds of many, you can’t help but want to get to your local track and see some racing for yourself. Well fans around the area of the South Alabama Speedway will have their chance as the 32nd Annual Rattler weekend comes to town February 29th-March 2nd.
For many competitors this is the start of the 2008 season and that’s exactly the case for Florida native Ryan Crane and his Honda/Yamaha/Sea-Doo of Panama City race team. The team has to be considered a favorite with fans and competitors alike after Ryan took home the trophy in 2006 posting one of his biggest super late model wins of his career. However, this year the team has been a bit behind the desirable timetable that driver Ryan Crane would prefer.
“Well I’m the type of person who likes to be well prepared and ahead of the game weeks before its time to play and whenever it doesn’t seem like that’s where we are at it weighs on my nerves a little bit. We upgraded to a new tractor trailer we bought from James Finch’s Nascar Nationwide team and have been getting it ready, not to mention we have been building a new car, and have switched to McGunegill motors for our super late model program. So needless to say we have had a lot of changes over the winter but they all seem to be coming together just now this week,” stated Crane.
The team will definitely have their chance to put their new equipment into action as they will be participating in the 125 lap pro late model event on Saturday night followed by “The Rattler 250” super late model event with the green flag set to wave at 2pm Sunday afternoon. This will be the first of as many as twenty events the Ryan Crane Racing team will be at this season, along with a few possible starts in the Nascar Camping World East series later in the year.
“Everyone just got through watching the Daytona 500 so I think it makes everyone a little antsy to go racing. I’ve always looked at the Rattler as the true start of the racing season, so it’s really a great way to set the tone of your season. Especially this year as we plan to hit a lot of races and with the help of Mike Garvey I feel we’ll be someone that everyone else will have to fight with for the win every time we’re at the track,” said Crane.
