Panama City, FL 7/1/08- The Fourth of July marks our nation’s independence, it’s a weekend that is all about getting together with family and friends, enjoying other summertime activities, and shooting off fireworks which we use to celebrate the day this great nation won its independence from the British back some 232 years ago.

However, for race teams of all levels from the Nascar Sprint Cup series to go-kart racers across the county, the Fourth of July weekend marks the halfway point not only of the calendar year but the 2008 racing season as well. It’s at this point of the year that short track racers like Ryan Crane look back and grade themselves and team on the first half of their season performance and then look to plan their remaining season schedule which in most cases includes a few of what’s called the “big money events” usually starting near the end of September.

When asked about how he would grade the first half of his team’s 2008 performance Ryan Crane had this to say, “I would say a B+. We started the year out as about as good as you can by winning the pro late model race at South Alabama’s (Speedway) Rattler weekend and from there it’s been kind of a mediocre year. We’ve still raced some solid races; as a matter of fact we’ve finished in the top five at half the races we ran this year, but we need to get back to victory lane. This team has worked hard and deserves some more wins so look for us to come on strong towards the latter part of the year at some of the big money season-ending shows.”

The other major decision for the team is where and when to race at especially heading towards the home stretch of the 2008 season. For most teams that are not committed to a specific series or sanctioning body the door is wide open. Races such as CRA series Winchester 400 at the Winchester Speedway in Indiana, Jefferson, Georgia’s Peachstate Speedway World Crown 300, and probably the most prestigious short track race in the country, the 41st Annual Snowball Derby at the Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, where the winner will come away with over $20,000 in cash are all events you may see on the Ryan Crane Racing season schedule come the second half of the year.

“You can definitely plan on seeing us at some of these big shows at the end of the year. We will be at the World Crown again this year and the Snowball Derby of course and more than likely will go to the Winchester 400. But right now we have two big races coming up this weekend that we feel we have a good shot at bring some trophies back to Panama City, first on July 3rd at Peachstate Speedway where we are going to run in the 125 lap Georgia Asphalt Series race then go on to Nashville to race in the new ASA Southeast Asphalt series at Music City Motorplex on July 5th,” stated Crane.
